Anthurium superbum is an impressive houseplant known for its dense rosette-shaped foliage, with upright, leathery, deep green leaves that often take on a purple hue on their undersides. This plant is ideal for tropical plant lovers looking for a hardy yet elegant species that can add an exotic touch to their home.
Origin: Native to the rainforests of Ecuador, Anthurium superbum grows naturally in moist undergrowth, where it receives filtered light and benefits from high humidity.
Growth: Anthurium superbum has a moderate growth habit, forming rosettes of leaves that can reach a length of 60 to 90 cm when grown indoors. The plant remains compact in width, with a height that can reach around 60 to 80 cm, making it a spectacular addition to any houseplant collection.
Flowers: The flowers of Anthurium superbum are typical of Anthuriums, with a green or purple spathe surrounding a central spadix. Although the flowers are interesting, it is primarily for its spectacular foliage that this plant is grown.
Light: This plant prefers moderate to bright indirect light. It thrives near an east- or west-facing window, or under suitable artificial light. Direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent leaf burn.
Watering: Water regularly to keep the substrate slightly moist, allowing the surface to dry between waterings. Anthurium superbum thrives in high humidity, which promotes healthy, vigorous growth.
Substrate: Use a well-draining, organic-rich potting soil, such as a mixture of peat, perlite, and bark. This type of substrate provides good root aeration while retaining the moisture this tropical plant needs.
Toxicity: Anthurium superbum is toxic if ingested. It is advisable to keep it out of reach of children and pets.
